Expert Patients Programme

The Expert Patients Programme (EPP) is a six week course for anyone living with a long term health condition. The Expert Patients Programme aims to help you take more control of your health by learning new skills to manage your condition better on a daily basis. The course looks at the following topics:

  • Dealing with pain and extreme tiredness
  • Coping with feelings of depression
  • Relaxation techniques and exercise
  • Healthy eating
  • Communicating with family, friends and health professionals
  • Planning for the future

The course is a free course run by trained volunteer tutors who are also living with long term health conditions. It also gives you the chance to meet others and share similar experiences.

Looking After Me Course

There is also a companion course to the Expert Patients Programme available called 'Looking after Me' (LAM) and is for anyone caring for someone with a long term health condition. This course helps you to:

  • Learn new skills to enable you to manage your caring situation
  • Develop the confidence to take more control of your life
  • Meet others who share similar experiences
  • Allow yourself to be cared for
