EMIS Web Care Record scheme

Doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals rely on good communication with their patients - and each other - to provide top quality care. In Central and Eastern Cheshire we aim to improve this communication with a new way to share vital, personal medical information. This will help improve your safety and allow professionals to make more informed decisions about your care.

We share because we care

A local scheme has been developed to allow certain doctors and nurses at Leighton Hospital in Crewe, in A&E, Out of Hours and the Urgent Care Centre, to view a limited but vital amount of information held about you, on your GP practices computer. Examples include medications, allergies and major illnesses.

Giving Consent

Both you and your GP practice will need to give consent for this information sharing to occur. Only senior doctors and nurses actively involved in your care, can see your medical record summary on the computer screen and only for a limited time. You will be asked for consent to do this at every consultation. Every care is being taken to protect your confidentiality and all information is stored securely with no ability to copy information or to make enteries onto your record.

Opting out

You can opt out of sharing any of your personal medical information outside your own GP practice at any time. If you do not wish your medical details to be shared with Leighton Hospital it is important you tell your GP practice so it can be noted in your GP record. If you choose to opt out, your decision can not be changed at a later date at the hospital, even in an emergency; it can only be changed at your GP practice. You should consider this very carefully before you choose to opt out. Please discuss this or any other queries with your GP.

When is the new scheme due to start?

The local scheme is due to start on 1st December 2010 and will run for a trial period of 6 months to give an oppurtunity for learning important lessons before the introduction of a wider scheme later next year.
