Pharmacy

Your local high street pharmacy can provide confidential, expert advice and treatment for a range of common illnesses and complaints, without having to wait for a GP appointment.

Minor Ailments Scheme

Through the Minor Ailments service, your local pharmacist can offer advice and, if necessary, prescribe medication to treat the following minor health conditions:

  • Earache and temperature
  • Hay fever
  • Vaginal thrush
  • Sore throat
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Oral thrush (in babies)
  • Simple urinary tract infections
  • Head lice
  • Impetigo

Many pharmacists now offer a medicine use review, where you can discuss what you’re taking, when you are taking it and any side effects.

Most pharmacies are open until late and at weekends and you don’t need to make an appointment, making them more convenient than visiting your GP.

To find your nearest pharmacy, look in your local phone directory, visit www.nhs.uk or text ‘pharmacy’ to 64764 to receive three FREE texts with details of your nearest pharmacies.
